The farm who rent this place for grass keep, have been brave enough to cut two silage fields here – sadly it looks like they topped it, but I presume they’re gonna pick it up. The lower field is somewhat better, to be fair, than the middle ground, which is a dreadfully poor old ley that none of us can afford to rip up and re seed.
The Buzzard is yelling over my head; it’s just done a fly past shrieking at me. I should imagine the sward being off has made her hunting a little easier this morning.
Wow, it smells wonderful down here — a strong ‘hot’ grass smell, cut grass that is 🙂 It’s quite nice stuff; there’s just not much of it. I expect they’ll probably put an effluent on next week, so I’ll probably be down here moaning about the smell then and the splatters till it neutralises – being very un career farmer about it!-!
Cooler mornings got me out and about the neighbourhood with my sketch bag and iPhone 13. Continue reading
Been warm. Place is bleaching to khaki or blonde and drying into cracks.
And they did 🙂 Sun up over Egg’ without swimming through neck deep grass 🙂

Another scorching day here in Dorset!
Rufus went in early out of the flies; the goats were already sprawled out in the shade.

Made an effort to plant the onion sets despite my bad back.

Onions are waking up 🙂

I found myself out of action all of Feb due to the tweaked back and poor access to NHS health care locally.
Deeply grateful to Gordon and neighbour Jon who helped me. We have now done the ‘unthinkable’ and changed GP’s.

Having had rather a long Christmas/ New Year break ‘doing art practise’ – due to the new Volvo lorry having issues Gordon had to get sorted. On the plus side we were warm and well fed and cosy. His working environment was ‘all change’ as soon as he was rolling again and so I ended up with a big pile of sh1t to shift. It will be good for someone’s roses or our runner beans but turned out not to be too good for my ‘out of condition’ back.
